Medicare and Employer Based Coverage Know Your Options

Medicare is the federal health insurance for those 65 and over and people with disabilities. As baby boomers age and more Americans become eligible for Medicare, there is a great need for information about how employer based coverage coordinates with the Medicare program. The economic downturn has resulted in more seniors working longer, and delaying retirement.

It can be a challenge for people to figure out how their new Medicare health benefits work with their existing health benefits, and if someone needs both. Often employers do not have all the answers, so it is important for the agent to feel equipped in responding confidently to these concerns.

About our Speaker:
Chris Ostrand has been in the insurance and financial services industry for over 18 years. He started out with a financial services background in Green Bay, WI, before entering the health insurance market with American Medical Security – Pacificare. His role was managing agent sales in the Under 65 individual health market. After a merger, he worked for three years as an independent agent for Associated Financial Group, where he finished #3 in production amongst all small group agents for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield in Wisconsin in 2008. Shortly after this, he went to work directly for Anthem BCBS as a Regional Sales Manager for 2-99 size businesses working with agents in Northern WI. In 2012, Chris helped launch a new HMO plan called Prevea360 in Northeast WI, where he was responsible for agent and broker sales for all products (individual, small group, large group, ASO), and helped them grow to 13,000 members within three years.
In 2016, Chris decided he had enough of Wisconsin winters, and moved to Arizona. He worked on a small online business before deciding to get back into the healthcare industry in 2018. One of his prior employers, Anthem, was looking at breaking into the Medicare market in Arizona under the Amerigroup brand name. Since then he has been the Regional Sales Manager for Amerigroup and is responsible for all agent and broker sales of Medicare products in Arizona.
Amerigroup’s current product offering in Arizona includes Medicare Supplement and PDP plans statewide and MAPD/CSNP plans in Pima County. He lives in Phoenix but travels to Tucson at least every two weeks to service the agents and brokers there. Amerigroup is part of Anthem, which is the nation’s second largest health insurer with over 40 million health plan members.
