SAAHU is a firm believer in making a difference within the community we live in. We do this by selecting a local registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization twice a year. We are proud to announce we will be supporting Kids Animals Life & Dreams (August-December). Their mission is to build mentoring relationships with youth in foster care by offering animal assisted learning, initiating volunteer opportunities, helping them develop their potential, and help prepare them for a successful future. The teens that they serve are in the DES system, and are required to find a job and/or volunteer on a monthly basis. KALD has partnered with another 501(c)3 organization called More Than A Bed to provide a place of service for these kids. More Than A Bed supports foster families and children by providing practical and basic needs. They have a warehouse (Prince & Campbell) where basic necessities are stored and foster families can come and get supplies at no cost. The teens of KALD volunteer at the warehouse to get their community service hours and get paid $5 an hour and must complete 16 hours a month (total $80).
