Membership activity

We have a monthly membership meeting on the third Wednesday of the month, at the Sheraton Tucson Hotel & Suites. This year we decided to change locations.  Meetings typically begin with a check-in at 8:00 a.m. with program beginning at 8:30. A few meetings were changed to lunch meeting accommodate speaker’s schedules.


Board meetings are held after the membership meeting each month.  It runs approximately 9:30-11. Members are welcome and encouraged to attend.



SAAHU was presented with the Pacesetter award in June 2017 at the annual NAHU conference in Orlando, FL for our accomplishments the prior year.  We will again apply for the Pacesetter award this year and it is nearly complete.


We are very proud that SAAHU applied and received the Gold Seal Certificate again; you can see our seal on the website!



We continue to be contracted with a State lobbyist along with AAHU and GPAHU to protect our industry.   They continue to work very hard on our behalf.  They have been assisting in supporting legislation at the state level.  Becky Kanoza is our local Legislation chair.


Fundraising/Public Service/Membership Mixer

Our Corporate Fundraising is a statewide fundraising package to support AAHU, GPAHU, and SAAHU.  The packages are for Carriers, GA’s and TPA’s and include different levels of sponsorship.  Becky reported that we have exceeded our fundraising goals this year.


Netta Garcia & Stacy Nietupski are the local community outreach chairs.  We have taken on a local charity CHD (children with heart defects).  They will be having collections at the monthly membership meetings as well as at the golf tournament.  We also gave to Kids Animals Life and Dreams.  We had a silent auction at our December meeting which helped us raise money for charity.  We also participated in cooking lunch at the Ronald McDonald house January 26, 2018.



Our 2017, 18th Golf tournament was held at Omni Golf Resort on April 14th 2017.  We will have our 19th annual Golf Tournament on April 13th 2018h at Omni Golf Resort.   Ryan Hansen has volunteered to chair the golf tournament along with the board.  Funding is based primarily on sponsorship packages.  We can sell raffle tickets and mulligan tickets along with golf 4-somes. The excess monies raised will support our local chapter.



2017 & 2018

We may have not had membership meetings during the summer (July & August) however we have been very busy planning for our upcoming year.

August 9th we had our State Strategic Planning meeting in Scottsdale, AZ.  Our Region 7 leadership training took place August 10th and 11th in Scottsdale, AZ and this year we combined with Region 6.  It was two action packed days full of activities and great speakers.

August 21st SAAHU had a productive strategic planning session as well.

September 27th we had our fist membership meeting.   It was put on by one of our very own Vice president of SAAHU, Michael Grossman.  He spoke on Ethics and this meeting was 2 Ethic CE’s.

October 12th we tried something a bit different.  We had a Live Through NAHU with Janet Trautwein, NAHU CEO.  Janet gave us an update on Washington.  This meeting was also a 1 CE credit.

November 15th was Kathy Winger, business attorney who talked with us about cyber security for health insurance brokers.  This meeting was a 1 CE.

December 13th we had our very own member Denisse Bravo who talked with us about wellness and use of oils in healing.  We also held a very successful annual silent auction.

January 17th our speaker was Jessica Badowski who spoke on the powers of social media.

February 21st  we plan to have Dan Johnson talk to us about wellness and stress.  We have applied for CE.

March 21st we are having Janet Trautwein, CEO of NAHU.

Karen and Stacy are working on membership and retention.   Membership packets are available at the door of all meetings.  Any board member can assist new members.   Stacy and Karen distribute the lapsed list at all board meetings and all board members volunteer to contact people on the list in order to retain.  Karen and Stacy put together a membership contest.  Each member that brings on a new member will be awarded a $25 Visa gift card.
